I am terribly afraid of heights. So it was quite ironic that I was excited when we bought the Singapore Flyer tickets in advance since it was on promo. But minutes before entering the capsule, I started to feel dread and anxiety. My thoughts were something like this:
What the heck, you know you are scared of heights, why did you suggest that you ride this huge wheel at a very scary height? Now, there's no way of backing out as everything is paid for already!
But yeah, I viewed the situation as an oportunity to overcome my fear. Upon entering the capsule, my knees were shaking already and I immediately sat on the seat in the middle. We went up in a precariously slow speed and I was very scared to stand up. My colleagues had to hold my hand just so I can stand and walk around a bit. (Hey, I'm no old lady!). Eventually, I got used to the height and I started taking photos and walking around. But still, my legs felt like Jell-O. I was then more relaxed as we slowly descended.

Do I look relaxed enough? |
Overall, it was a fun experience. The view was stunning and I left with a high.
And oh, by the way, there was what they call the Journey Of Dreams before you actually fall in line for the Singapore Flyer. It was a mini exhibit about the safety, history and special guests of the attraction.
Some fun facts and info about the Singapore Flyer:
- It is the largest observation wheel in the world.
- You can also have dinner and cocktails at the Singapore Flyer and see the magnificent view at night (with a matching fee of course).
- There's a relaxing garden and pond in the middle of the atrium. You can even feed the fish if you want!
- Regular operating hours are from 9:00PM-10PM but 6PM to 10PM is reserved for cocktails and dinner.
Tips on how to get to the Singapore Flyer:
- Find the nearest MRT station and alight at the orange line's Promenade station. From there, it is a 5-10 minute walk to the Flyer.
- There's also a bus going to Singapore Flyer but I find their bus system more complicated than the train system. The train is easy breezy (just a lot of walking)!
